Avril Ramona Lavigne was born September 27, 1984 in Napanee, Ontario, Canada. Originally
Avril Lavigne was intended to be the punky alternative to pop princesses like
Britney Spears, but she now considers herself
pop rock. Avril Lavigne was ranked seventh on the 2006 list of the Canadian Business Magazine's most powerful Canadians in Hollywood. On July 15, 2006 she married Deryck Whibley, the lead singer/guitarist of pop punk band Sum 41 and fellow Canadian.
Avril's first album
“Let Go” (2002) was the best selling album of the year for a female artist as well as for a debut album. “Let Go” went platinum four times and was a number two album in the US and number one in Australia,
Canada, and the UK.
“Under My Skin” (2004), Avril's second album, debuted at number one in the US as well as in 12 other countries worldwide.
“The Best Damn Thing” (2007), her third album, is set for release on April 17.
“Girlfriend” is her first single off this latest album. So far Avril Lavigne has sold over 26 million albums worldwide.
